From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Tuesday, August 15, 2006:

Katharine Claire Dupree, 50, died of congestive heart failure at her home Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006. Her mother, Betty Claire Schmid McKnight, was at her side.

Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Bill Dickson officiating. A reception follows in the Parish Hall.

Memorials: The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to either Young Life of Fort Worth, 2501 Forest Park Blvd., Fort Worth, Texas 76110, or St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Tenth and Lamar streets, Fort Worth, Texas 76102.

Kathy Dupree, known affectionately within her family as "Aunt Pitypat," had a rare ability to see the good in people while being shocked by their behavior. She was an integral part of a close family that combined the vigorous and Teutonic Schmids with the Duprees of Waco who were erudite and urbane. When Kathy was born on Leap Year Day in 1956, it was only the second birth that the Duprees celebrated in the 20th Century.

Kathy enjoyed school and graduated from Arlington Heights High School and Colorado State University. She played on her high school tennis team, participated in hiking and rock climbing events in Colorado and in her later years studied drawing and watercolor. After college, she commenced a series of jobs at Gordon Boswell Florists, Neiman Marcus and the YMCA. Her greatest contribution, however, remained in the personal domain. Kathy's quiet participation in Young Life led her to reflect in her life an understanding of grace, prayer and unconditional love. Moreover, her willingness to be transparent regarding her own struggles and failures illustrated how God's "power is made perfect in weakness." Kathy's family is comforted by the scripture that reads: "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his godly ones." Psalm 116:15.

Special thanks to Kathy's caregivers, May McKinney, Pearlie Reed, Voneva Duty, Ruth Gillis, Lenore Humphrey, Helen Britton and Sharlet Brown and, also, Lawrence Alexander for their care and assistance.

Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Robert Padgitt Dupree, and a stepfather, Alfred McKnight.

Survivors: Her mother; brother, Robert Burton Padgitt Dupree; sister, Ellen Dupree Davis; brother-in-law, Ronald Redd Davis; her beloved and "wicked" stepsisters, Ann McKnight Corkery and Blanche McKnight; niece and godchild, Claire Felicity Davis; nephews, Roncisco Shapley Tolbert Davis and Robert Padgitt Davis; uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Schmid Jr.; devoted Schmid, Tripplehorn, Peyton and Foster cousins; and numerous dear steprelatives.
